Student Selected to Lay Wreath At Tomb of Unknown Soldier

Jacob McDonald was one of four essay winners and will be part of the ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington on July 28th. Each year the Lion’s Club of New Hampton organizes an 8th grade trip to Washington D.C. The 7 day trip takes students to Chicago, Gettysburg, and Washington D.C. One of the highlights of the trip is the visit to Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. New Hampton has had the privilege to provide four students to lay the wreaths during the ceremony. This year, students were asked to submit an essay titled “How Can I Be a Good American” in order to be considered. Jacob’s essay centered around service, leadership, and working hard.
